Hello!

My name is Keertana S. Kakkanat, and I am a passionate educator

with over 12 years of experience teaching children from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

My goal is to create an environment where every child feels nurtured and supported to thrive and reach their full potential.

My Story

I have taught English, Science, Social Sciences, and Mathematics from Kindergarten to Grade 8. My passion lies in creatively interweaving various subject streams and practising child-centric, project-based and experiential learning approaches to make learning meaningful, joyful and inspiring for children. I have worked extensively with IB, CIE, and ICSE schools, designing and implementing alternative curricula, pedagogies, and assessment practices and developing educational models to integrate these methodologies into mainstream education.

In addition to teaching, I specialise in Teacher Professional Development, mentoring and training teachers to enhance their skills and teaching practices. I also provide strategic consulting on holistic and systemic school development, helping institutions design and implement transformation programmes that enable meaningful and sustainable growth, aligned to their educational aims.

I hold a Diploma in Elementary Education, a Bachelor's (major) degree in Psychology, and a Master's in Education from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Currently, I am pursuing a hybrid Postgraduate program in Educational Assessment at Azim Premji University, further enhancing my expertise in this field.

As a co-founder and director of Peraivu Koodam Centre for Policy Research and Action, a think-tank and research consultancy, I focus on critically examining State educational policies and providing realistic action-oriented solutions. Additionally, I have contributed to educational research, including evaluating the implementation of the 12(1)(c) provision of the Right to Education Act in Tamil Nadu and co-led the ICMR multi-site study examining the feasibility of locally adapted and community delivered life skill training to improve mental well-being indigenous adolescents in the Nilgiris, TN.

I specialise in designing robust mixed-method and action research methodologies, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis for comprehensive and insightful results. I also contribute to academic discourse by writing papers and offering editorial support for educational journals and books. Currently, I am working on a book focused on Teaching and Learning Resources in School Education, aimed at providing practical insights and strategies for educators and institutions.

As an educator and consultant, I collaborate with children, teachers, schools, and educational models to develop balanced, transformative and self-sustaining educational processes and systems using a contextualised and holistic approach.
